About Me

My name is Barâa and I am a storyteller.

Currently, I am in my final year of my undergraduate degree in Humanities and Art History. I'm fascinated with the ways images tell stories. My area of research is French orientalist art produced about Algerian women and the way art is a means of resistance against colonial agendas.

I am a spoken word artist. I performed on the Canadian national stage in 2014. Since, I have taken a break to publish my first chapbook and perform at local events.

I co-host The Watering Hole podcast, a weekly show in which we have discussions about gender inequality and creative resistance with leaders in their fields such as Ahmed Ali Akbar and Amanda Parris

I love to use stories as a springboard for social outreach and community activism. I think narratives are a human- centered; stories dissolve socially constructed boundaries and touch our very humanity.
